Vittorio Sgarbi launches a series of NFTs of Italian artists. It begins with Luciano Ventrone

"Italian Treasures" is the name of the project, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi, through which the company Apeiron Technologies is offering masterpieces by Italian artists for sale in the form of NFTs: it starts on Oct. 22 with Luciano Ventrone.

Vittorio Sgarbi is launching a series of NFTs by Italian artists: this is the Italian Treasures project, curated by the Ferrara-based art historian and produced by Apeiron Technologies, a company specializing in innovative solutions with blockchain technology. The first volume will be available for purchase from October 22 exclusively on the Makersplace marketplace, a platform dedicated to digital art, and will focus on the works of Luciano Ventrone (Rome, 1942 - Collelongo, 2021), considered the Caravaggio of the 20th century, famous for his still lifes.

The project aims to promote Italian art through the new frontier of NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) so that buyers can also discover masterpieces by Italian artists digitally. Italian Treasures will in fact make some masterpieces of Italian art available to enthusiasts in the form of NFTs. In the first phase, the volumes edited by Vittorio Sgarbi will be three: the first two dedicated to Luciano Ventrone, the third dedicated to Rocco Normanno (Taurisano, 1974) . The first one, as mentioned, will be put on sale on the Makersplace platform on October 22, the second volume dedicated to the Roman artist will contain seven works and will be released on the marketplace on October 28, while the third volume of this first series will be focused on Rocco Normanno whose works are based on seventeenth-century models related, too, to the artist of reference namely Caravaggio, adapting biblical, mythological and literary scenes to the reality of today. The volume dedicated to Normanno will contain eight works by the Apulian artist and will be available on the Makersplace platform from November 3.

“This technology,” comments Vittorio Sgarbi, “dematerializes the work of art as we have understood it until today, and makes it truly eternal. Technology is made of revolutions: this one of NFTs for art really seems to be one. And now anyone, not just the very wealthy, can become the owner of a unique masterpiece.”

“We are very proud to have contributed to the creation of this series of volumes conceived and edited by Vittorio Sgarbi,” says Francesco Biacchi, administrator of Apeiron Technologies, “both because we are dealing with a’unique initiative that will certainly revolutionize the art world, and because we are aware that the creation of Italian Treasures recognizes the right tribute to the culture and art of our country.”
