Kicking off Nov. 15 on Sky Arte is the docu-fiction dedicated to the history and places of the Medici family, L’ultima de’ Medici. The new TV series, available on demand, traces the events of all the members of the famous Florentine family that gave birth to one of the seigniories that most favored culture, art and patronage, while also having relationships with prominent political figures.

The series kicks off with Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, the last great exponent of the dynasty: played by Piera Degli Esposti, she is the narrator of the entire story and in dialogue with the notary Jacopo Guiducci (played by Amerigo Fontani), she tells the story of her own family, highlighting anecdotes, circumstances and characteristics of her ancestors. All in a contemporary key, thanks to the intervention of dancers, musicians, artists, performers.

Cosimo the Elder, Lucrezia Tornabuoni, Lorenzo the Magnificent will come back to life thanks to actors such as Marco Zannoni, Luisa Cattaneo and Domenico Cucinotta. Also, Chiara Francini, Sandro Lombardi, Massimo Poggio, Francesco Ciampi, Luca Calvani, Marco Zannoni, Carlina Torta, and the participation of Fabio Canino, Fiona May and Drusilla Foer. Places such as the Villa di Cafaggiolo, Villa del Trebbio, Villa di Castello and Palazzo di Seravezza, residences of the family, now included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, open their doors to the public, welcoming viewers into the history and secrets of the great lineage. Twelve Villas and two Medici Gardens are thus the settings of the docu-fiction. The series is promoted by the Region of Tuscany with the contribution of MiBACT and produced by Fondazione Sistema Toscana: it is divided into fourteen episodes, each lasting an average of 26 minutes. Intent is to recount what still remains visitable today of the ancient Medici splendor: the Unesco-protected Villas and Gardens.
