Pistoletto of Egypt: the Third Paradise away at the Pyramids

At 91, Michelangelo Pistoletto is indefatigable: in October his Third Paradise will fly to Egypt, among the Pyramids.

Not standing still even at 91: Michelangelo Pistoletto continues to reinvent himself. The artist from Biella has been announced among the “headliners” of the 2025 edition of Forever Is Now, the international contemporary art exhibition taking place at the foot of the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt. The initiative, now in its fifth edition, will be held between October and November 2025, under the auspices of Art D’Égypte by CulturVator, with the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Cairo and the Italian Cultural Institute in Egypt. The details of Pistoletto’s project, which is still being finalized, are described as a monumental installation that blends elements of Egyptian civilization and local materials-sand and stone-with the conceptual language of the Third Paradise, the famous manifesto-work conceived by the artist in 2003. The symbol of the Third Paradise, a triune infinity that exalts the balance between nature and artifice, will stand out in the desert as a sign of rebirth and hope for the world.

The project primarily involves Fondazione Pistoletto - Cittadellarte, which has been promoting art as a tool for social transformation for more than 25 years. Thanks to an agreement with the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, young Egyptian artists are invited to apply for a fully funded three-year degree program at the Unidee Academy in Biella, with the aim of fostering cultural and educational exchange between the two countries. “Having Michelangelo Pistoletto in Forever Is Now is a historic moment for Egypt and for global contemporary art. Bringing his voice to the Pyramids is not only symbolic, it is visionary,” said Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, founder of Art D’Égypte by CulturVator. Paolo Naldini, director of Cittadellarte, added, “I am happy to dialogue with the Egyptian art scene, artists and cultural institutions. Cittadellarte aims to make art a bridge between peoples, cultures and geographies. This is what art can do: connect and intertwine the lives and stories of people from different backgrounds and eras.”
