Christo is coming to Brussels with his Three Store Fronts.

From January 27 to February 4, 2018, the BRAFA Art Fair in Brussels will have a guest of honor: Christo, who will arrive in Belgium with his Three Store Fronts.

The BRAFA Art Fair scheduled to take place in Brussels between January 27 and February 4, 2018, will have a guest of honor: it is the great Bulgarian artist Christo (Gabrovo, 1935), who will exhibit one of his impressive works, Three Store Fronts, in the spaces of the Tour&Taxis in Brussels on the occasion of the sixty-third edition of the Belgian art fair-market. It is an installation fourteen meters long and two meters high: dimensions that make it the largest work ever exhibited at BRAFA.

However, it is certainly not the first time it has been shown to the public (not least because it is a work from the 1960s): it was first exhibited in the Netherlands at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, then more recently at the retrospective Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Early Works 1958-1969 held at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin in 2001. The work intends to reproduce the store fron ts that populate our cities, with a series of storefronts containing drapes: it is a work with a strong architectural sense (and which some critics want to be pervaded by a sense of melancholy such as the works of Edward Hopper may emanate), which Christo and Jeanne-Claude conceived during their stay in New York, inspired by the buildings and skyscrapers of the great American city.

The collaboration between Christo and BRAFA came about on the occasion of Urban Projects, another retrospective on Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and in particular their urban projects, which is on view at theING Art Center in Brussels until February 25, 2018.
