Florence celebrates Electress Palatina with free admission to civic museums

On the anniversary of the passing of the Electress Palatina, Florence is offering free admission to the Civic Museums. You will also be able to meet the historical figure thanks to Giaele Monaci who will impersonate her.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, the last descendant of the Medici Grand Ducal branch, also known as the Electrice Palatina, the Florentine Civic Museums and MUS.E pay tribute to this female figure whose choices were decisive for the history of her heritage and the entire city of Florence. On Friday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 2022, the public will be able to meet the historical figure and to dialogue with her: in fact, it will be Giaele Monaci who will impersonate the Electress in an engaging and direct confrontation with history. The introduction to her figure and historical context will be by Elisabetta Stumpo.

The event is offered in the Sala dei Gigli in Palazzo Vecchio on Friday, Feb. 18 (at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.), the day of the anniversary of her death, and again on Sunday, Feb. 20 (at 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.).

On Friday, Feb. 18, to mark the anniversary, the Florentine Civic Museums and the Medici Riccardi Palace will be open to the public free of charge.

The great merit of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici is embodied in the legal act, known as the Family Pact, stipulated with Francesco Stefano of Lorraine, thanks to which the latter bound to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany the whole complex of assets that were part of the Medici collections.

Participation in the meeting is free of charge (Friday 18 admission to the museum is free; Sunday 20 the museum tour is excluded); reservations are required. For information and reservations write info@musefirenze.it or call 055-2768224
