OnMonday, March 6, from 7 to 9 p.m., the Accademia Gallery in Florence is celebrating Michelangelo ’s birthday (born March 6, 1475) along with the sixth year of theAssociation of Friends of the Accademia Gallery in Florence with a special evening, organized by the Friends, for members and those who would like to join, signing up either in the days leading up to or that evening.

“Next March 6,” continues Fausto Calderai, president of the Association, “we old and new Friends of the Accademia Gallery of Florence will find a Museum new in lights, air, colors and so many new things that deserve a walk through beautiful and varied works of art, beautifully preserved by all those who work for the Gallery with rare love and expertise. We Friends stand by the Museum with great pride and hope to celebrate Michelangelo’s birthday with lots of participation.”
In fact, on Monday, March 6, anextraordinary opening will be organized, from 7 to 9 p.m., with an exclusive visit to the new museum displays and the exhibition The Riace Bronzes a journey through images, accompanied by music performed by some of the students of the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory: Alice Aniksztejn and Apolline Leveque, guitar duo; Cosimo Boschi, cello; and Gregorio Del Vecchio, clarinet.
Participation is restricted to members of the Association, but it is possible to join, even in the days before, online at the website of the Friends of the Accademia Gallery of Florence (Friends of David) or directly on March 6 at the entrance to the Gallery. Members of the Association have free, priority admission to the Gallery, valid for one year, and many other benefits.
The Association of the Friends of the Accademia Gallery of Florence was born in 2017 from an idea of Cecilie Hollberg and has continued to pursue its goal of supporting the museum by collaborating on various activities, including sending out the weekly newsletter; organizing some DAVID 140 events; and Chatting with David, an artificial intelligence-based chatbot developed through a collaboration between the Museum, the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, and other international universities, which allows website users to interact directly with David’s alter ego.
