Genoa hosts Europe's longest tunnel of lights, and will ideally unite two areas divided by the Morandi bridge collapse

In Genoa from December 8, 2018, it will be possible to walk through Europe's longest tunnel of lights, an ideal tribute to the victims of the Morandi Bridge collapse.

From December 8, 2018, Genoa will host Europe’s longest tunnel of lights for the holiday season, ideally connecting two of the city’s ten Christmas trees, one in the historic center and the other in the Certosa area: two areas of the city separated by the collapse of the Morandi bridge last August 14.

The Tunnel of Light is a 60-meter immersive experience that accompanies one to the subway, where one can reach the Brin station and continue the journey in the second tunnel, ending in front of the Certosa Christmas tree. In fact, this year, in addition to the traditional fir tree in Piazza De Ferrari, there will be a tree decorated in the Certosa neighborhood, as a sign of closeness to the citizens affected by the Morandi bridge tragedy, and eight others in the remaining Genoese municipalities, for a total of ten trees that will brighten the Genoese holidays.

The lighting of the two fir trees kicks off the Genoese Christmas festivities, and is scheduled for Saturday, December 8. At 4:30 p.m. there will be the unveiling of the installation Christmas between memory and hope: a tree for Genoa. 43 artists reinterpret the spirit of the Nativity, curated by the Mario Novaro Foundation. In Regione Liguria’s Transparency Hall, a Christmas tree made from salvaged materials from the Polcevera River and 43 branches not to forget the victims of the bridge. On each branch will be a work of art that will then be auctioned for charity. At 5:30 p.m. in Piazza De Ferrari there will be the lighting of the Tree and the light tunnel, designed and sponsored by Iren: it will be possible to follow the live broadcast at Brin on the big screen. The tunnel will be inaugurated by Liguria Region President Giovanni Toti and Genoa Mayor Marco Bucci. At 6:15 p.m. in Brin there will be the lighting of the twin tree and the second tunnel of light: it will be possible to follow the live broadcast in De Ferrari on the mega-screen.
