From July 24, 2022 to January 8, 2023, MUSE - Trento Science Museum presents Lascaux Experience. The Cave of Lost Tales: a journey back in time among artifacts, videos and a virtual reality experience to discover one of the most fascinating places, namely Lascaux Cave.
Prehistory is a time of great discoveries where mankind initiated many things, including art. The Lascaux Cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds splendid paintings dating back some 20,000 years. The exhibition, which made its Italian premiere at the MANN-National Archaeological Museum in Naples in January 2020, but was shortly thereafter restricted by restrictions due to the pandemic, arrives in Trento in a completely revamped guise thanks to Oculus visors that allow visitorsvirtual and interactive exploration of the cave.
Through artifacts, multimedia projections and the virtual reality experience, the exhibit will tell the story of the famous cave, which was closed to the public in 1963 due to its delicate microclimate and susceptibility to outside contamination.Amid depictions of horses, bison, felines and other forms, visitors will immerse themselves in the timeless magic of a very ancient place that still fascinates today.
The opening is scheduled for Saturday, July 23 at 6 p.m. and is part of Midsummer MUSE, an evening event this year dedicated to prehistory, which includes outdoor activities, workshops, historical reenactments, music and at 9 p.m. the show Antenati, by and with Marco Paolini.
