Mantua lights up with Biennale Light Art

From July 21 to October 7, 2018, the outdoor spaces of the Ducal Palace in Mantua will light up with the light works of the Biennale Light Art.

From July 21 to October 7, 2018, the outdoor spaces of the Ducal Palace in Mantua will shine with light works by leading Italian and international artists during the Biennale Light Art.

The artists who will participate in the event are: Donatella Schilirò, Federica Marangoni, Nicola Evangelisti, Massimo Uberti, Edward Shuster + Claudia Moseley, Marco La Rosa, Davide Dall’Osso, Romano Mantovani Boccadoro, David Dimichele, Fardy Maes.

The director of the Palazzo Ducale Museum Complex in Mantua, Peter Assmann, said, “The Biennale will creatively illuminate some of the most prestigious outdoor spaces of the Palazzo Ducale: the lawn of the Cavallerizza and the Eleonora loggia, the portico under the Palazzina della Rustica by Giulio Romano, and the moat of the Castello di San Giorgio.”

Vittorio Erlindo, curator and creator of the initiative, added, “Light draws and colors things, landscapes, environments, cities and the lives of men. The eternal challenge between darkness and light is in constant flux and will never end. Man, in the short history of his appearance on earth, has been the protagonist of continuous inventions that enable us today to illuminate and be illuminated 24 hours a day. After centuries of study and research for more artificial light, however, it is peculiar to this time the laboratory construction of absolute darkness, which seems to plunge us into that primordial darkness that science has imagined existed before the appearance of the stars, and which seems to take us back to the deep origin of ourselves and the universe. Another way to remind us that, without darkness, light would not appear and that, without light, nothing would have happened in the reading of the universe: both inseparable essences of nature, indispensable for understanding the contemporary.”

The exhibition, with free admission, is curated by Vittorio Erlindo and realized with the support of Eni, a partner in the event.

The opening is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10 p.m.
