Paxos Contemporary Art Project 2018: the island becomes a work of art

The small Greek island of Paxos becomes a work of contemporary art thanks to the Paxos Contemporary Art Project, curated by Marina Tomacelli Filomarino.

Paxos, a tiny Greek island that is part of the Ionian Islands, is the site of a large open-air exhibition with a series of temporary installations, curated by Marina Tomacelli Filomarino, until September 9, 2018. The island is entirely invaded by colorful artworks that Filomarino made possible thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter that raised a sum of 25 thousand euros.

The event is called the Paxos Contemporary Art Project (P-CAP) and was created with the help of eight European artists-Axel Void, Jewgeni Roppel, Leonid Keller, Linus Lohmann, Quintessenz Creation, Rene Wagner, Michael Sebastian Haas, and Yiannis Pappas.
The idea of the project is to draw attention to this island of only 19 kilometers, while still preserving its identity (it should be noted that Paxos has no airport).

Paxos Contemporary Art Project (P-CAP), the presentation reads, “is a unique and unprecedented installation and performance project that seeks to highlight the spirit of the island and support the work of young artists. [...] All events and installations are hosted in public spaces across the island and are completely free of charge for visitors coming from Greece, Europe and the rest of the world. Visitors can access the various venues either by car or on foot. Some of the larger installations are also visible from the sea. The project includes works created specifically for the festival by the artists: paper works, sculptures, performances, murals, and audiovisual installations. All works are site-specific and made from materials found on the island.”
