Roberto Bolle pays tribute to the victims of the Morandi Bridge by dancing to the notes of Paganini's violin. The video

Roberto Bolle, during his show Danza con me, paid tribute to the victims of the Morandi Bridge collapse by dancing to the notes of Niccolò Paganini's violin.

There was also room for a tribute to the victims of the Morandi Bridge collapse in Genoa on Rai Uno’s Danza con me, Roberto Bolle ’s big show dedicated to dance: the well-known dancer, star of the show as well as artistic director and creator, brought dance to prime time, on the first day of the year, with a program that, Roberto Bolle himself pointed out, gave him the opportunity to “mark a cultural change in which dance and ballet can be perceived as an art form close to people and able to reach their hearts and move emotions.”

One of the most intense moments of the program was precisely the tribute to the victims of the Morandi Bridge, the viaduct on the A10 highway that collapsed last August 14: 43 people lost their lives during the tragic episode, and in the aftermath hundreds of inhabitants of buildings built near the bridge had to be displaced. Roberto Bolle, introduced by the Genovese comedy duo formed by Luca Bizzarri and Paolo Kessisoglu, danced a choreography created by Mauro Bigonzetti, interpreting the eleven variations of Capriccio No. 24 by Niccolò Paganini (Genoa, 1782 - Nice, 1840): this is the last of the Capriccios written for solo violin by the Ligurian composer, and it is considered one of the most difficult pieces for solo violin. In the presentation, Paganini was introduced by Bizzarri and Kessisoglu as a kind of “rock star” of his era: and indeed, until March 10 in Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale there is an exhibition entitled precisely Paganini rockstar, strongly desired by Bizzarri, who is also president of the Fondazione Palazzo Ducale.

In the tribute ballet, the bridge of Paganini’s violin (the vertical element placed on the instrument’s sound box, which has the function of transmitting sound vibrations to the sound box itself, and keeping the violin strings in an arched position so that the bow does not touch all the strings together) has become a symbol of the bridge that is no longer there but which, even in its absence, continues to be central to the life of Genoa. The choreography, during which Bolle danced naked and which combined the virtuosity of Paganini’s notes with that of the body of the “Étoile of the two worlds,” was among the most appreciated of the show. Danza con me recorded very high audience ratings and impressive numbers: 4 million 451 thousand viewers watched it (21.3 percent share), peaking at 5 million 439 thousand.
