In the capital, 2023 opens with Rome Capodarte. Music will be the protagonist: from classic Christmas melodies to tributes to various composers from the Italian music scene. A wide program of concerts will enliven various cultural venues spread throughout the Capital that, for the occasion, will be accessible for free. Five special concerts are expected at the Ara Pacis Museum, the Capitoline Museums, Centrale Montemartini, Teatro Argentina and Teatro del Lido di Ostia. The program is also enriched by the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, the Casa del Jazz and the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Plus, concerts offered by the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Biblioteche di Roma and Banda della Polizia Locale di Roma Capitale.
The Musei Civici di Roma Capitale and the main archaeological areas of the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali (such as Circus Maximus, Villa di Massenzio and Fori Imperiali) will be open and free of charge, along with the Planetarium of Rome and the spaces of the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo (Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Mattatoio and MACRO). All exhibitions hosted in the spaces involved will also be free for the occasion. In addition, some museums will host meetings with personalities from the world of art and culture, while in others there will be guided tours and workshops, some with free admission while places last, others with mandatory reservations.
Many initiatives also in the Libraries of Rome, which open the 2023 celebrations of the centenary of Italo Calvino’s birth on January 1 with a series of events dedicated to The Invisible Cities: ten cities in ten libraries of the Roman system for an afternoon of music, readings, performances, workshops and exhibitions.
