The month of September in Siena opens with an event that combines spirituality, history and beauty. It is called Prima Lux and offers a very special experience: watching the sunrise from the city’s most fascinating vantage points. The locations chosen for these special openings are not random. The first is the panorama from the Facciatone, one of the most spectacular views of the city, located inside the monumental complex of the Duomo. The Facciatone is what remains of the grandiose design of the New Cathedral, which remained unfinished in the 14th century. From its top, now accessible to the public, there is a 360-degree view of Siena and its territory. The second place is thealtana ofPalazzo delle Papesse, a historic Renaissance building located in the heart of the city. In addition to being an exhibition center, the palace is known for hosting Galileo Galilei, who studied the sky, the moon and its phases from this very spot. The choice of this observation point charges the experience with a symbolic value: those who participate in Prima Lux retrace, ideally, the gaze of the great Tuscan scientist and, like him, wait in silence for the arrival of light.
The format of the event includes a gathering moment before dawn, with access to the two selected panoramas still immersed in the darkness of night. Visitors will ascend slowly, when the sky is still dotted with stars or barely veiled by a faint mist. With the arrival of dawn, the first rays of the sun will illuminate the city, restoring its contours, colors and perspectives in a natural spectacle that is renewed every day. Making the experience even more enjoyable will be a breakfast served at the Bistrot cafeteria in Palazzo delle Papesse. A convivial moment, but also an opportunity to share impressions, emotions and reflections with other participants.
Prima Lux thus presents itself not only as a cultural or tourist event, but as a personal experience that intends to focus on the history of places and the value of slowness through the gesture of waking up before dawn, climbing in silence to a high point, waiting together for the arrival of light and welcoming it with calm and awareness.
