Special opening of the National Library of Naples


May Day at the Naples National Library, open extraordinarily, with exhibitions and museum tours.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the National Library of Naples will be open extraordinarily, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering tours of the splendid rooms on the second floor intended by Ferdinand II for the private apartments of the royals: the Palatine Room with Maria Carolina’s lectern, the revolving table and other valuable furniture, the rooms that now house the Aosta Fund and the ethnographic collections in the Africa Room. On the second floor it is possible to visit the monumental Reading Room and the Bourbon Ballroom.

The Lucchesi Palli section will be open to the public with guided tours illustrating the exhibition Theater and Thespians. Actors’ Funds on Display set up in the rooms with Pompeian-style frescoes.

In the Exhibition Hall, at 12 noon, the exhibition Il diritto alla felicità. The Season of Reforms in the Kingdom of Naples set up on the occasion of the May of Monuments 2019 and open until June 15, 2019.

Also on view from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Doric Hall of the Royal Palace will be the exhibition ll Corpo dell’Idea, which preesents a wide selection of precious autographs by Giambattista Vico and Giacomo Leopardi: from the Scienza Nuova, the Zibaldone di pensieri, the Operette Morali, the Primavera, and the Stratone da Lampsaco, with a prominent role for l ’lnfinito in its first version of 1819, with corrections and rethinks by Leopardi. Added are 29 rare texts from the 1500s and 1700s, and the valuable Globe by Vincenzo Coronelli (1650 1718), a geographer, active in Venice, then at the court of the Sun Kings, all from the National Library.
