The second edition of Venice Photo kicks off

From April 25 to May 4, 2019, Venice's San Servolo Island will host the second edition of Venezia Photo with workshops, events and exhibitions.

The second edition of Venezia Photo, which will be held at theIsland of San Servolo and will run from April 25 to May 4, 2019, is starting.

There are more than two hundred participants from all over Europe to take part in workshops, events, and exhibitions. Photography enthusiasts, professionals, amateur photographers and beginners will meet here to share the experience of the all-around festival.

Twenty-two workshops, divided into two four-day sections, are planned to explore different aspects of photography: from portraiture to the use of black and white, from lighting and model management to photojournalism.

Expected international photographers include Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Albert Watson, Paolo Roversi, Ann Ray, Alan Schaller, Nicolas Bets, Massimo Siragusa, Oliviero Toscani, Settimio Benedusi, Stéfanie Renoma, Jean Christophe Bechet and many others.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a French photographer and environmentalist, will give a lecture on April 27, 2019 at 8:45 p.m., during which he will talk about his career and his relationship with photography, focusing mainly on his passion for nature and environmental issues that have marked his work since the beginning, presenting excerpts from some of his films that have portrayed the beauty of our planet and its fragilities.
Paolo Roversi, among the world’s best-known fashion photographers, will meet the public on May 1, at 8:45 p.m., to look back on a 40-year career that has seen him portray the most famous models and movie stars, with work published in the most prestigious fashion magazines.

Two photography exhibitions are also scheduled: Ann Ray will present on April 27, at 7 p.m., a selection of his large-format photos from Les inachevés, the project presented in 2018 at the Arles Photography Festival. Stunning black-and-white portraits that testify to her personal and artistic relationship with Lee Alexander McQueen, who granted her privileged access to his fashion shows. The exhibition will be on view from April 27 to November 24, 2019.
Some photos selected as part of the Your own Unexpected Venice photo contest will instead be featured in another exhibition. More than 1,500 photos arrived at Venice Photo and were viewed and selected by an international jury composed of Alexandre de Metz, Maral Deghati, Francesca Lanaro and Francesco Pistilli. The jury decreed the winners: Lorena Ponce (1st place), Claudia Corrent (2nd place) and Augusto Maurandi (3rd place). Honorable mentions for Igor Mosca and Fabio Vittorelli. The winners will be awarded on April 25 during the Venezia Photo student welcome ceremony.

Venezia Photo is a project born from the collaboration between San Servolo Srl, an in-house company of the Metropolitan City of Venice, and Les Rencontres d’Arles, one of the most important photographic festivals in Europe, with the operational support of the French ADAP, the Association for the Diffusion of Photographic Art.
