After Milan, Palazzo Altemps also dedicates an exhibition to Filippo de Pisis

From March 20 to June 21, 2020, the Museo Nazionale Romano at Palazzo Altemps will host an exhibition dedicated to Filippo de Pisis.

Complementing the most extensive Milan retrospective of the last fifty years dedicated to Filippo de Pisis (Ferrara, 1896 - Milan, 1956) running until March 1, 2020 at the Museo del Novecento in Milan, the Museo Nazionale Romano at Palazzo Altemps will host from March 20 to June 21 an exhibition dedicated to de Pisis that aims to restore the Ferrara artist’s pictorial sensibility through twenty-six paintings and a rich selection of papers and watercolors.

Curated by Pier Giovanni Castagnoli with Alessandra Capodiferro, head of the Museum of Palazzo Altemps, promoted by the Museo Nazionale Romano in collaboration with the Polo Museale di Milano modern and contemporary art and produced by Electa with the support of the Associazione per Filippo de Pisis, the exhibition will present the celebrated artist as a poet and painter of versatile talent and as a figure without comparison in the artistic events of the Italian twentieth century. In particular, aspects of his personality that characterized him from a young age, such as his vast culture, classical studies, interest in archaeology and passion for collecting minute things, will be illustrated. The drawings on paper and watercolors with male nudes and heads of young men, the oils in which ideal statuary is represented refer to the artist’s archaeological passion and create a direct dialogue with the statues and portraits of Palazzo Altemps.

The exhibitions are accompanied by a single catalog published by Electa.
