An exhibition in Rome will celebrate 150 years of French Impressionism


From March 30 to July 28, 2024, the Historical Infantry Museum in Rome will celebrate one hundred and fifty years of French Impressionism with an exhibition. About two hundred works from private collections will be on display.

The Historical Infantry Museum in Rome will celebrate the 150th anniversary ofFrench Impressionism with the exhibition Impressionists - The Dawn of Modernity, scheduled from March 30 to July 28, 2024. Produced by Navigare srl and organized with the support of the scientific committee composed of Gilles Chazal (former Director Musée du Petit Palais, Membre école du Louvre), Vincenzo Sanfo, and Maithe Valles-Bled (former Director Musée de Chartres and Musée Paul Valéry) and directed by Vittorio Sgarbi, the exhibition will present a wide selection of about two hundred works, including paintings, drawings, watercolors, sculptures, ceramics, and engravings from private collections.

The exhibition aims to document the origins and history of the artistic movement that originated in France in the mid-19th century and was officially recognized as such on April 15, 1874, on the occasion of the first Parisian exhibition, organized in the studio of the photographer Nadar. The exhibition will feature recalls of the great masters of the early Impressionist artists, such as Jacques-Louis David, Théodore Géricault and Gustave Courbet, and those at the École de Barbizon, to post-Impressionism, with works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, André Derain, Raoul Dufy and Maurice de Vlaminck.

The exhibition will feature the great artists and masters of Impressionism, such as Monet, Degas, Manet, Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin, Pissarro and others, as well as great comprimarios who shared the new way of making art, such as Félix Bracquemond, Jean-Baptiste Guillaumin, Jean-Louis Forain, Marcellin Desboutin, and Ludovic Lepic.

Also complementing the exhibition will be documentary materials such as letters, photographs, books, clothing, and objects with the intention of offering a glimpse of the society that was born and established during the Impressionist movement.
