From June 9 to September 9, 2018 at the Milan Triennale, the exhibition 'Abitanti. Seven looks at today's Italy' presents images by photographers under 35 on contemporary living

It was presented yesterday at the Palazzo dell’Arte by the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Milan Triennale, the project "Abitanti. Sette sguardi sull’Italia di oggi," a collective reflection on the theme of contemporary living made by photographers under 35.

Curated by Matteo Balduzzi, the exhibition displays the photographic works of Dario Bosio, Saverio Cantoni and Viola Castellano, Francesca Cirilli, Gloria Guglielmo and Marco Passaro, Rachele Maistrello, Tommaso Mori and Flavio Moriniello. These photographers were chosen from more than 300 applicants from all over Italy by a scientific committee composed of Fabio De Chirico, Director of the General Directorate for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries, Giovanna Calvenzi, President of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Matteo Balduzzi, curator of the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the project, Stefano Mirti, founder of IdLab, designer and curator of the exhibition 999. A collection of questions about contemporary living, Luigi Spedicato, sociologist at theUniversity of Salento, and Milena Farina, researcher in architectural and urban design at theUniversity of Roma Tre.

The exhibition, open from June 9 to Sept. 9, 2018, stems from the ABITARE call for entries, issued by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism - General Directorate for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries.

The theme, it was said, is contemporary living in a landscape that is examined in an articulate way, addressing the social vein, which is more linked to the appearance of the places experienced. Matteo Balduzzi recounts, “The artists have operated animated by a strong civil and social tension, often through a deep rootedness in places. With extremely divergent languages and practices, ranging from documentary photography to the staged image, from the activism proper to public art to the application of algorithms, the projects deal with highly topical issues such as housing sharing, wanted or forced, for reasons of income or mutual assistance, the condition of fragility that characterizes both internal areas and situations of occupation or self-management, the interactions between technology, image and body.”

The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Ticket price €7.
