An unseen in the second stage of the exhibition dedicated to the arcades of Bologna

Second stop for the exhibition dedicated to the arcades of Bologna by artist Ivan Dimitrov. Also exhibited is an unpublished work.

After the great success of the exhibition at Palazzo d’Accursio, with more than 5,000 visitors, the Sotto il segno dei portici exhibition showcasing Ivan Dimitrov ’s collection of sixty three-dimensional bas-reliefs moves to the Sala Museale “Possati” at the Complesso del Baraccano in Bologna.

It will be on view from October 31 until November 29, 2020; it is curated by the Studio Santo Stefano Gallery in Bologna, and is organized by the Municipality of Bologna-Quartiere Santo Stefano, with the Patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region.

This second exhibition stage will be enriched by an unprecedented: the new bas-relief depicts a glimpse of Piazza Santo Stefano framed between the two rows of porticoes facing the square.

The exhibition is part of the cultural initiatives of the management plan in support of the candidacy of the porticos as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a tribute to the city and its porticos: “It is a Bologna that has passed away but is always current, a refuge of serenity and peace that easily becomes sentiment and transcends into sweet, sincere, never predictable poetry. Dimitrov’s evocation is also magic. He transforms the real of arcades, humble alleys, crumbling walls, and historic buildings into the surprise of discovery, the enchantment of the play of shadows and reverberations, the unexpectedness of column escapes. No human presences are superimposed so as not to misrepresent the direct relationship with porches and houses that are appreciated in their intimate reality. Captured in a meridian hour, warm with still light, golden reflections on the riary colors of Bologna, porticoes, courtyards and roofs, wrapped in silence, become a state of mind, an echo of nostalgia and tenderness: the masterpiece of centuries of existence and the most effective presentation of the heart of Bologna,” declares Celide Masini.
