In St. Mark's Square at the Procuratie Vecchie, during the 2019 Venice Biennale, the exhibition Diversity for Peace!

On the occasion of the Venice Biennale, an international exhibition entitled Diversity for Peace! was organized by the Karuizawa New Art Museum at the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square.

Ten young artists from all over the world came together in this exhibition that aims to ensure that art can help bring together people with different cultural and social backgrounds and sexual orientations. Diversity for Peace! also intends to celebrate Japan’s new Reiwa era, which began on May 1, 2019 with the accession of the new Emperor Naruhito to the throne, and aims to spread the message that Peace and Culture flourish in an environment of acceptance of diversity.

Participating artists are Florentijn Hofman (Netherlands), Ronald Ventura (Philippines), Huang Yuxing (China), Miwa Komatsu (Japan), Yang Yongliang (China), Chris Succo (Germany), Fabio Modica (Italy), Æsa Björk (Iceland/Norway), Ahhi Choi (Korea/Japan), Ryotaro Muramatsu NAKED (Japan).

Japanese contemporary artist Miwa Komatsu was interviewed as an ambassador for Maison Christian Dior: the artist links her art to fashion and dedicated her work Sakura (Cherry Blossom) to Maison Christian Dior as a symbol of world peace.

Before making a painting, Komatsu said he meditates, “I meditate and pray, so I will see you with my mind’s eye and then find what I see.” His art focuses on the theme of life and death, the nature of the human soul.

The exhibition Diversity for Peace! is on view until Nov. 24, 2019.
