At the Chamber of Deputies, Giansanti's shots of the discovery of Aldo Moro's body

From May 9 to 13, 2022, the Chamber of Deputies is hosting the exhibition "There you will find a red Renault 4. The Moro Affaire in the Shots of Gianni Giansanti": twenty photographs by Gianni Giansanti to commemorate the discovery of Aldo Moro's body in 1978.

The Chamber of Deputies opens its doors to the public from May 9 to 13, 2022 on the occasion of the exhibition There you will find a red Renault 4. The Moro Affaire in the Shots of Gianni Giansanti, set up in the Sala del Cenacolo of Palazzo Valdina. The exhibition commemorates the anniversary of the discovery of the body of Aldo Moro (Maglie, Sept. 23, 1916 - Rome, May 9, 1978), Italian politician, jurist and academic.

Twenty photographs by Gianni Giansanti (Rome, 1956- Rome, March 18, 2009), which earned him an honorable mention at that year’s World Press Photo, will be on display, accompanied by texts excerpted from Laura Leonelli’s interview with the photographer, published in Sole24Ore on March 1, 2008.

Organized by ICAS (Intergruppo parlamentare Cultura, arte e sport), in collaboration with Archivio Gianni Giansanti, Radio Radicale and Fondazione Sciascia, and organized by Civita Mostre e Musei with the installation support of Fondazione Ludovico degli Uberti and the logistical support of Articolarte, the exhibition is also an opportunity to remember all victims of terrorism. The opening of the exhibition coincides with the day in 1978 when Moro’s body was found inside a red Renault 4 in Via Caetani in Rome, murdered fifty-five days after his kidnapping: the tragic event was immortalized in the famous shots of Gianni Giansanti , one of the most appreciated photojournalists on the international scene.

“Giansanti’s photos had the ability to represent the entire Moro kidnapping due to a series of incredible coincidences, namely that he lived on Via Fani and arrived first at the site of the kidnapping,” said Federico Mollicone, ICAS founder and coordinator. “This exhibition has another peculiarity, that is, it has a sound setting: when you enter the exhibition we will hear the voices of the protagonists of the story, from government representatives to the dramatic phone call of the brigatists to the family. Voices taken from Parliament thanks to Radio Radicale, the ’black box’ of the Republic.”

Finally, Mollicone appealed to the Ministry of Culture "so that digital photographic archives like the Giansanti one are not lost and can be supported, surveyed and financed."
