At the International Exhibition of Contemporary Illustrators in Nervi, a special review on Mordillo

From March 3 to June 2, 2019, the 14th International Exhibition of Contemporary Illustrators can be visited in Nervi. One section is dedicated to Mordillo.

On Saturday, March 2, 2019, the 14th edition of the International Exhibition of Contemporary Illustrators will open at 4:30 p.m. at the Raccolte Frugone in Nervi, and can be visited from the following day until June 2, 2019. The theme of this edition is CAOS. The International Exhibition is an annual event divided into two sections: the first includes a selection of 48 authors chosen (among 975 participants from 50 countries) by the jury chaired by renowned Argentine artist Guillermo Mordillo.
The second section, on the other hand, is dedicated to Mordillo himself, the protagonist of The Tenderness of Fear, a retrospective of more than 100 works starting with those from his beginnings in the 1950s up to his most current works. drawings on sports, particularly golf and soccer, the irreverent plates on love and couples, plates taken from books, preparatory sketches, not to mention his cute animals, including the famous giraffes, which celebrated their 50th birthday last year, will be on display.

Born in Argentina in 1932, Guillermo Mordillo trained as a cartoonist and is the author of animated cartoons; he has distinguished himself as one of the most published cartoonists in many countries since the early 1970s. After moving to Paris in the 1960s, Mordillo experienced a moment of great notoriety thanks to the creation of unique works, characterized by bright colors and an extraordinary sense of humor impersonated by his funny and peaceful characters, who do not use words to express themselves, but rather an amusing gestural manner. In addition, Mordillo has always given ample space to artistic depiction featuring nature and animals, especially giraffes, whose adventures have been collected in several incredibly successful volumes.

The illustrator contest, conceived by the Tapirulan Association, was created with the aim of publishing an illustrated calendar. Over the years, the contest has evolved: many authors have been selected, and the aim is to mount an exhibition that offers a broad overview of the world of illustration. Tapirulan Editions has published a catalog dedicated to Mordillo’s monographic exhibition. A catalog of the works of the 48 selected illustrators is also available, as well as the 2019 calendar with the images created by the top 12.
The 12 authors published in the 2019 calendar are Emanuele Benetti, Inna Burshteyn, Giulia Canala, Beatrice Cerocchi, James Daw, Luca Di Battista, Joey Guidone, Irene and Irene, Marie Muravski, Filippo Spinelli, Laura Zani, and Antonio Zeoli.
