At the Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia, Young Italian Photography with eight artists under 35

From April 24 to June 8, 2025, the Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia will host the twelfth edition of Giovane Fotografia Italiana | Premio Luigi Ghirri. The initiative represents an important reconnaissance of the panorama of contemporary photography in Italy.

Starting April 24, on the occasion of the Fotografia Europea Festival, until June 8, 2025 the Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia will host the twelfth edition of Giovane Fotografia Italiana | Premio Luigi Ghirri. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia in collaboration with several international festivals, represents an important survey of the panorama of contemporary photography in Italy.

The group exhibition, curated by Ilaria Campioli and Daniele De Luigi, brings together the works of eight artists under 35 selected by an international jury: Daniele Cimaglia (Rome, 1994), Giuseppe Odore (Pompei, 1995), Davide Sartori (Gallarate, Milan, 1995), Erdiola Kanda Mustafaj (Elbasan, Albania, 1992), Grace Martella (Tricase, Lecce, 2006), Rosa Lacavalla (Barletta, 1993), Sara Lepore (Carpi, Modena, 1999), Serena Radicioli (Latina, 1997). This year’s theme is Unire / Bridging, an invitation to reflect on the power of the image as a tool for connection, dialogue, relationship and care for the other.

The 7 projects in the exhibition

In the work Non sei più tornato (You’re Not Back), Serena Radicioli addresses a personal grief related to a tragic crime story, using archival and family photographs to try to fill the void still shrouded in silence after years.

Pasqyra e Lëndës (Summary) by Erdiola Kanda Mustafaj explores the theme of exile through a visual narrative made of fragments: an intimate tale that invites reflection on the cyclical nature of history.

With The Equator Feast, Rosa Lacavalla interweaves ancient and contemporary rituals related to the crossing of imaginary borders, in a metaphor of the human search for a point of contact and reconciliation.

Davide Sartori, in The Shape of Our Eyes, Other Things I Wouldn’t Know, draws on his own family history to question the paternal role, exploring the links between work, identity and personal relationships.

Grace Martella ’sMemoirs of Transit documents the author’s journey of gender affirmation in an intimate and personal way, seeking new modes of representation away from visual and narrative stereotypes.

With Ingrediente pentru un tort de miere, cu dragoste, Sara Lepore reflects on a broken family identity, exploring how language and memory can simultaneously separate and reunite.

Finally, La Dote di Latera by Daniele Cimaglia and Giuseppe Odore is a participatory project that actively involves the inhabitants of a Tuscia village, revealing how traditional material culture can offer concrete answers for the present.
