At the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, an exhibition on Berthe Morisot included in celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Impressionism

The Palazzo Ducale in Genoa will host an exhibition dedicated to Impressionist painter Berthe Morisot this fall. The exhibition has been included in the official celebration of the 150th anniversary of Impressionism.

Next fall the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa will host an exhibition dedicated to Impressionist painter Berthe Morisot (Bourges, 1841 - Paris, 1895). This was announced yesterday by the new director of Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale, Ilaria Bonacossa, during the press conference for the public presentation.

The exhibition, part of the official celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, stems from an agreement with the city of Nice. “It is not obvious to be on the list of official exhibitions, because as you can imagine, from all over the world there are many requests,” said the newly appointed director. “It will be an important exhibition because it will bring unpublished works, letters that have never been published and works from private collections,” she announced.

“Berthe Morisot was a painter who for all intents and purposes worked with the Impressionists, exhibited at their official shows, a painter who married Manet’s brother,” Bonacossa explained. “She was a very serious painter, but most of her works at the time ended up in the homes of friends or relatives, few ended up in institutions. It will be a nice opportunity to shed light on Impressionist artists that art history has somewhat neglected,” she concluded.
