Christian Achenbach's visions on display at Pietrasanta's Poggiali Gallery

Coming to Italy for the first time are the works of Christian Achenbach, who will be featured in a solo exhibition at Galleria Poggiali in Pietrasanta.

Arriving for the first time in Italy are the hallucinatory works of Christian Achenbach (Siegen, 1978), one of the most significant German artists on the contemporary scene and a proponent, along with Jonas Burgert with whom he has long exhibited, of a return to painting that he has declined by focusing on the visionary power of color and the ability to arouse strong impressions. The exhibition will be held from July 1 until Aug. 7 and will take place at the Poggiali Gallery in Pietrasanta (Via Garibaldi, 8) and is part of the contemporary art exhibition Project Room, organized by the gallery itself.

Among the various works Achenbach will be exhibiting at the Versilia venue will be Untitled, a sculpture composed of a series of self-propelled concentric circles, 130 centimeters in diameter, all in different colors. The references range from Braque and Cubism to Pop Art and street art.Achenbach’s sculptures have, in keeping with much of the tradition, strong painterly connotations and are painted in colors that often turn violent.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m. After Achenbach’s exhibition, three other shows will be scheduled in the Poggiali Gallery: the exhibition of Fabio Viale, who is already exhibiting this summer in Forte dei Marmi (in Pietrasanta his show will be from Aug. 8 to 24), Roberto Barni (Aug. 26 to Sept. 14) and Marco Fantini (Sept. 16 to Oct. 31). Poggiali Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight. All info at www.galleriapoggiali.com.
