Edward Spitz's environmentally themed comic-book works arrive for the first time in Sardinia

For the first time in Sardinia, works by Edward Spitz, the faceless artist who transforms famous comic book characters into contemporary pop icons, are on display at Poltu Quatu.

Until Sept. 4, 2022 at the Grand Hotel in Poltu Quatu, a Sardinian village between Baia Sardinia and Porto Cervo, about twenty works by Edward Spitz, the faceless artist who transforms the most famous Disney characters, such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie and Uncle Scrooge, into contemporary pop icons, are on display for the first time in Sardinia.

As a tribute to the island, the artist has created his Exhibition Sardinia Collection 2022 at the location: paintings made with different techniques on the theme of environmental preservation and sustainability. The characters have as their background the pages of original vintage comic books, on which Spitz hand-paints the great comic book icons, creating a mix of pop art and street art.

Before arriving in Sardinia, Edward Spitz exhibited at the Clarendon in London, the Sconci Art Gallery in Dubai and Corridor Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv.

“In this sense, the veil of mystery shrouding the artist has a unique key: in an era when image and aesthetics are the priority, choosing to remain in faceless anonymity, and to let the works speak instead of the person, is surely a revolutionary choice,” reads the exhibition card.

The exhibition has free admission.
