First-ever monographic exhibition dedicated to Taddeo di Bartolo at the National Gallery of Umbria extended

The first-ever monographic exhibition dedicated to Taddeo di Bartolo has been extended through Aug. 30, 2020. The National Gallery of Umbria reopens May 28.

The National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia welcomes its public again on Thursday, May 28, and extends until Aug. 30, 2020, the exhibition dedicated to the great Sienese artist Taddeo di Bartolo (Siena, c. 1362 - 1422), the first monographic exhibition ever held on the painter.

Curated by Gail E. Solberg (the leading scholar of the artist), the exhibition presents about one hundred panels by Taddeo di Bartolo, through which it is possible to reconstruct his entire artistic production, from his beginnings in the late 1480s to 1420-22. The works come from prestigious international museums, such as the Musée des Beux-Arts in Nancy and the Szépmuvészeti Múzeum in Budapest.

“Reopening the halls of the Gallery is a signal of great significance that must be greeted with great enthusiasm, while being aware that compliance with some important rules of fruition is necessary to ensure the safety of the public and Gallery staff,” said director Marco Pierini.

The exhibition will also see the San Francesco al Prato Altarpiece from Perugia temporarily reunited: the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria holds thirteen elements of the polyptych, and for the occasion the missing parts will also be on display, including the seven panels of the predella depicting the Stories of St. Francis, preserved between the Landesmuseum in Hanover, Germany, and the Kasteel Huis Berg in s’-Heerenberg, Netherlands, and the St. Sebastian from the Capodimonte Museum in Naples, which probably decorated one of the pillars of the woodwork.

The reopening of the museum and exhibition includes compliance with the safety measures dictated due to the health emergency: use of the thermoscanner, distance of at least one meter, mandatory mask and hand sanitization, suspension of the use of audio guides, entry to the ticket office and bookshop of one person at a time. Quotas for the museum tour will be by rooms: the ticket office will be notified of any suspension of entry if the maximum number of rooms is reached.
