From March 5 to April 28, 2019, the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence is hosting Andrey Esionov's exhibition 'Neo-nomads and Autochthons.

From March 5 to April 28, 2019, theAcademy of Design Arts presents the work of painter Andrey Esionov (Tashkent, 1963), a master of contemporary Russian figurative art.

The Neo-nomads and Autochthons exhibition, realized under the patronage of the City of Florence and the Region of Tuscany and conceived in collaboration with theRussian Academy of Fine Arts, is curated by critic Alexander Borovsky and will be on view with free admission in the Exhibition Hall of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, Via Ricasoli No. 68, Florence.

The title of the exhibition derives from the Neo-nomadic cycle of works, an analysis dedicated to a structural event that is taking place all over the world: humanity on the move, from large migratory flows to mass tourism. This phenomenon is seen not with the gaze of the host or the migrant, but from a novel perspective, that of the outsider who is able to grasp its nuances and paradoxes. The exhibition thus recounts the changes and contradictions of a humanity in constant movement, through 42 works, taken from eight different series of watercolors, with which the artist makes a critical, surreal and biting reflection around the scenario of contemporary metropolises and the humanity that populates them.

The Neo-nomads and Autochthons exhibition will be the first stage in a cycle of solo shows aimed at introducing Andrey Esionov’s art, artistic research and poetics to Italy. After Florence, the exhibition will continue in Rome where, in September 2019, the artist’s works will be exhibited in the splendid setting of the Museo di San Salvatore in Lauro.

Esionov, born in 1963, graduated from the Republican College of Music and Art in 1981 as a painter and graphic artist. In the same year he entered theInstitute of Theater Art A. N. Ostrovsky in Tashkent where he completed the academic studies courses of the easel painting class. Esionov is a member of theCreative Union ofRussian Painters, the Union of Russian Painters and a full member of theRussian Academy of Fine Arts; recipient of the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts and the Silver Medal of the Creative Union of Russian Painters; winner of the 6th Moscow International Art Festival "Tradicij i sovremmennost ’’ [Traditions and Contemporaneity] in the painting category.
