Florence, Jeff Koons exhibition begins at Palazzo Strozzi

In Florence, from Oct. 2, 2021 to Jan. 30, 2022, Palazzo Strozzi hosts "Shine," a long-awaited exhibition by Jeff Koons.

Opening in Florence ’s Palazzo Strozzi on Oct. 2, and ending Jan. 30, 2022, is the major exhibition Shine, a solo show by Jeff Koons, one of the most controversial figures in contemporary art. Curated by Arturo Galansino and Joachim Pissarro, the exhibition brings to Florence a selection of the artist’s most celebrated works presented on the scene since the mid-1970s.

Developed in close dialogue with the artist, the Shine exhibition hosts loans from the most important collections and major international museums, proposing as an original key to interpret Jeff Koons’ art the concept of “shine” understood as a play of ambiguity between splendor and glow, being and appearing.

Author of works that have entered the collective imagination because of their way of combining high and popular culture, their references to the history of art and quotations from the world of consumerism, Jeff Koons finds in the idea of “shine” (shine) a key principle of his sculptures and installations that aim to question our relationship with reality but also the very concept of a work of art. The American artist’s works place the viewer in front of a mirror in which to reflect himself and place him in the center of his surroundings. As Koons himself states, “The artist’s work consists of a gesture with the goal of showing people what their potential is. It is not about creating an object or an image; everything happens in the relationship with the viewer. This is where art happens.”

The exhibition is promoted and organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi. Supporters: City of Florence, Tuscany Region, Florence Chamber of Commerce, Fondazione CR Firenze, Palazzo Strozzi Partners Committee. Main partner: Intesa Sanpaolo.
