For the first time in Venice, the abstract works of Yoje Dondich

Until July 17, 2019, the abstract works of Mexican artist Yoje Dondich can be seen at Spazio San Silvetro in Venice.

For the first time in Venice, on the occasion of the 58th. Venice Biennale, the works of Yoje Dondich ( Mexico City, 1952) arrive from Mexico.

Until July 17, 2019, in fact, Spazio San Silvetro is hosting the exhibition The synesthesia of shapes, conceived and promoted by Must Wanted Group, which is involved in the dissemination of Mexican art and culture in the world.

Through a selection of 14 works from the artist’s abstract phase, the exhibition analyzes more than twenty-five years of his career: since the early 1980s, Dondich has been exploring the infinite possibilities of abstraction, proposing a new interpretation of it following the great tradition of the Mexican avant-garde. These are works that offer the viewer multi-sensory synaesthetic experiences through experimentation with geometric shapes and colors.

Yoje Dondich’s art meets a dialogue with the theme of this edition of the Biennale in offering, through his works, synaesthetic experiences in which the viewer uses his senses. In a world where technology has overtaken stimulation and awe at everyday things, we are no longer surprised; Dondich’s works predispose to the experience of resorting to painting as a means of materializing sensibility.

The artist owes his plastic training to Mexican and foreign masters such as Rolando Belfai, Isaac Stavans and Manuel Guillén. The multiplicity of his works is particularly due to his constant search in expressing the doubts that arise in the inner and creative world. The choice of the title, The synesthesia of shapes, alludes to the sensory/perceptual phenomenon that indicates a contamination of the senses.
In the works on display in the exhibition, color, line, shapes and strokes are the main protagonists.

The exhibition was supported by the Embassy of Mexico in Italy, the Consulate of Mexico in Milan and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature.

Hours: Daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Tuesdays.
