From Guercino to De Nittis: Ceci and Poscio collections on display in Domodossola

The exhibition 'From Guercino to De Nittis' will open to the public on Sunday in Domodossola. Important works from the Ceci and Poscio collections will be on display.

Opening to the public on Sunday, May 28 at the Casa De Rodis in Domodossola (Verbania) is the exhibition Tra Guercino e De Nittis. Two Collections Meet, which will feature the exhibition of the main nuclei of the collections of Antonio Ceci (1852 - 1920), a surgeon from the Marche region but Pisan by adoption, and Alessandro Poscio (1928 - 2013), a Piedmontese entrepreneur active in the construction industry. Masterpieces from their art collections will be compared to highlight differences and similarities in outlooks between two collectors driven by similar artistic interests: Ceci and Poscio, in particular, were attracted to natural views marked by human presence, and had a particular fondness for 19th-century and antique art. The works in the Ceci collection, from Ascoli Piceno, are by artists such as Pietro da Cortona, Guercino, Luca Giordano, Alessandro Magnasco, and Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo. The Poscio collection, on the other hand, will see works by, among others, Telemaco Signorini, Antonio Fontanesi, and Giovanni Fattori.

During the exhibition, curated by Stefano Papetti (director of the Pinacoteca Civica di Ascoli Piceno), unpublished works will also be presented, such as a Saint Jerome attributed to Lionello Spada and a Madonna at Prayer by the young Sassoferrato. The catalog is published by Cattaneo Editore, has essays by leading scholars (Dario Gnemmi, Fernando Mazzocca, Maria Silvia Proni, Paule Quinsac, Carlo Sisi, Cinzia Virni), and the proceeds will be entirely donated to the restoration of a work by Pietro Alamanno, the Madonna Enthroned between Saints Sebastian and Catherine of Alexandria, from the church of San Silvestro ai Sassi in the Marche region and damaged during the recent earthquake in central Italy. 15 euros is the cost of a copy.

The exhibition will remain open until Oct. 28, 2017. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., other days by appointment. Admission: 5 euros, valid for unlimited admission. Free for children aged 0 to 12 and students. Guided tours for school groups by reservation. Info at www.collezioneposcio.it.
