In 2018 a major exhibition on Marina Abramovic in Florence

Announced a major retrospective exhibition on Marina Abramovic in Florence, Palazzo Strozzi, opening in fall 2018.

Opening to the public on September 21, 2018, and lasting until January 20, 2019, is the major retrospective that Palazzo Strozzi in Florence will dedicate to Marina Abramović (Belgrade, 1946), one of the most controversial living artists, considered among the pioneers of performance art. The exhibition will feature more than one hundred works by the Serbian artist from the 1970s to the present, including less famous works from her early days, plus there will be a live re-enactment of some of the well-known performances that have punctuated the artist’s career, propelling her into the firmament of contemporary art stars.

After the major exhibitions on Ai Weiwei and Bill Viola, Palazzo Strozzi continues to focus on big names in contemporary art. The Marina Abramović retrospective will be preceded by two other exhibitions already announced: the one on the sixteenth century in Florence (September 21, 2017 - January 21, 2018), curated by Antonio Natali and Carlo Falciani, which will close the “triptych” dedicated to sixteenth-century Florence (which began with the exhibition on Bronzino in 2010 and continued with the exhibition on Pontormo and Rosso Fiorentino in 2014), and the one onItalian art from the Postwar period to Sixty-eight (March 16, 2018 - July 15, 2018), which will bring to Palazzo Strozzi the works of Fontana, Guttuso, Burri, Schifano, Pistoletto and all the great protagonists of that season.
