Is artificial intelligence a powerful autonomous creature? At OGR Turin, a group exhibition reflects on the topic

From March 29 to June 25, 2023, OGR Turin presents a group show in which contemporary culture meets technology. The exhibition aims to question the idea of artificial intelligence as a powerful autonomous creature.

The OGR Turin focuses on the future with a group exhibition in which contemporary culture meets technology: Perfect Behaviors. Life redesigned by the algorithm, curated by Giorgio Olivero. The exhibition is intended to be aninvestigation into changing individual and collective behaviors in a society where we are constantly classified, measured, simulated and reprogrammed.

On the occasion of the opening day to be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, OGR Turin will offer the public an articulated program, with a Public Program event curated by the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT dedicated to the theme of the metaverse; a public opening night that leaves the tracks open until midnight; and a live musical performance created on the occasion of the exhibition. At 6 p.m., in the Cathedral, the public will be invited to participate in Metaversando...perspectives and paths in the metaverses of contemporary art, a meeting with Luisa Ausenda and Marco Mancuso, moderated by Ilaria Bonacossa, part of the METAmorphosis project. Access is free by reservation. From 8 p.m. to midnight, Platforms 1 and 2 will open for the long opening of the group exhibition. Through June 25, the exhibition features works by Universal Everything (UK), Paolo Cirio (Italy), Eva and Franco Mattes (Italy), Brent Watanabe (US), Geumhyung Jeong (South Korea) and James Bridle (UK) geared toward achieving a common goal, which is to return alternative narratives to the dominant technological determinism to the viewer, helping to make visible what is invisible, even if it is close.

In a context in which the quantification of everyday life is at the hands of increasingly sophisticated data collection systems, the exhibition aims to challenge the idea of artificial intelligence as a powerful autonomous creature inside opaque black boxes, emphasizing instead how, behind the tools for measuring interactions, there is always someone’s intervention.

From 9 to 9:45 p.m. in Binario 3, Lorem, a visual artist and musician, will also present, during the opening day of the collective, the new live AV, Tesh. A performative version of the new chapter of the work Distrust Everything, the live show combines transcriptions of dreams and weird literature through the use of machine learning systems, weaving sound and narrative elements within the distorted and dreamlike imagery typical of his production. Free admission by reservation only.
