Marco Petrus and his architecture in the anthology at MARCA in Catanzaro

The MARCA - Catanzaro Museum of the Arts is hosting the 2003-2017 Anthological Exhibition of Marco Petrus from May 13 to August 20, 2018.

Kicking off on May 13, 2018 at MARCA - Catanzaro Museum of the Arts is the2003-2017 Anthological Exhibition of Marco Petrus.

The exhibition, which can be visited until August 20, 2018, presents 35 large-scale works created by the Milanese artist. Present are some previously unpublished paintings from the Dalle Belle Città series from 2012.

Starting with a selection of works presented for the first time in 2017 on the occasion of the Matrici exhibition, including a particular vision of the Vele di Scampia, the exhibition continues with five paintings from the Atlas series, in which the urban space is represented in its particularities, in its glimpses, through the various cities of the world, constituting a sort of “urban atlas.”
On display in the MARCA’s central hall are the previously unseen Dalle Belle Città and several Upside Downs.
The exhibition ends with works inspired by the architecture of various European cities, including Budapest, Ljubljana, Prague, Naples, and Trieste.

Curator Elena Pontiggia said, “Petrus painted not only those architectures, but also the balance or, more often, the imbalance in which we are immersed. He painted order, constructive capacity, purposeful vocation, but also the towers of Babel that we encounter in our lives. Architecture, in his paintings, also becomes something perilous, when with the late 1990s his buildings begin to tilt, to lean obliquely like modern Pisa towers. Or it becomes something enigmatic and incongruent.”
