On display for the first time in Rio de Janeiro 69 original Rembrandt engravings

For the first time in Brazil, a significant nucleus of Rembrandt's works will be on view: the Correios Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro will present 69 original etchings by the Dutch artist on display.

Centro Cultural Correios in Rio de Janeiro presents the free exhibition Rembrandt - The Master of Light and Shadow from Sept. 24 to Nov. 8. The exhibition brings together 69 original etchings by Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606-1669), one of the greatest masters in the history of art, offering the public a journey between light and shadow, technique and emotional depth. For the first time in Brazil, it will be possible to admire a significant nucleus of works by the Dutch artist. After touching countries such as Germany, Belarus, China, Colombia, Spain, the United States, Italy and Mexico, the exhibition lands in Rio de Janeiro.

In his art, Rembrandt combined a strong mastery of chiaroscuro and a great ability to render the psychology and humanity of his subjects. Biblical scenes, portraits and landscapes become intense and vivid narratives.

The exhibition will be accessible to all: in addition to captions and translations in Brazilian sign language, visitors will find Braille panels and a 3-D self-portrait with tactile support, designed to make the experience inclusive and multisensory.

“Although he never left his native Holland, Rembrandt is an artist who speaks to everyone, able to inspire people from different cultures and eras through his works,” explains Luca Baroni, curator of the exhibition. “This exhibition aims to highlight the power of his work with significant, high-quality examples that reflect his long and intense career. We are particularly proud that the exhibition is truly open to everyone, not only because it is free, but also because it is enriched by dedicated tools that will also allow people with visual or hearing disabilities to enjoy it. It is a truly inclusive and universal exhibition, a gift to the public.”

“In an age marked by speed and superficiality, his art emerges as a counterpoint: it invites pause, silence and reflection. That’s why, centuries later, Rembrandt remains an artist who transcends borders and generations,” says Álvaro Moura, head of the exhibition in Brazil.
