Palazzo Strozzi celebrates Natalia Goncharova. Major exhibition in September

From Sept. 28, 2019 to Jan. 12, 2020, Palazzo Strozzi in Florence hosts the exhibition 'Natalia Goncharova A Woman and the Avant-Garde, Between Gauguin, Matisse and Picasso.'

Palazzo Strozzi in Florence celebrates, from Sept. 28, 2019 to Jan. 12, 2020, Natalia Goncharova (Negaevo, 1881 - Paris, 1962), an extraordinary female figure in twentieth-century art, through a major retrospective, entitled Natalia Goncharova A Woman and the Avant-Garde, Between Gauguin, Matisse and Picasso, which traces her countercultural life and her rich and multifaceted production in comparison with masterpieces by famous artists such as Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Umberto Boccioni from the collections of the most prestigious international museums.

Through 130 works, in a kind of journey between the Russian countryside, Moscow and Paris, the artist’s two iconic cities, the exhibition allows us to discover the maverick biography of a woman who knew how to live for art, creating an original fusion of tradition and innovation, East and West, and making her work a unique example of experimentation between artistic styles and genres, from Neoprimitivism to Raggism, from painting and graphic art to work for the theater.

The exhibition is promoted and organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and Tate Modern, London, with the collaboration of Ateneum Art Museum, Helsinki. With the support of Comune di Firenze, Regione Toscana, Camera di Commercio di Firenze. With the contribution of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.
