From Nov. 22, 2025, to April 12, 2026, Parma will host a major exhibition dedicated to Steve McCurry (Philadelphia, 1950), staged in the rooms on the first and second floors of Palazzo Pigorini. The exhibition, curated by Biba Giacchetti, a profound connoisseur of the photographer’s work, will not follow a chronological or geographic order, but will juxtapose images on the basis of affinities of subjects, atmospheres and emotions, looking for those subtle invisible links that unite people and places even far apart.
The installation aims to restore that sense of intense humanity that characterizes each of McCurry’s shots. Both his most famous photographs, such as the famous portrait of the Afghan girl, and images taken in more than four decades of his career, from Southeast Asia, China, South America and many other areas of the world, will be on display.
Each face captured by his lens holds a universe of stories, emotions, suffering, hope, fear and beauty. “I’ve learned to be patient. If you wait long enough, people forget the camera and their souls begin to soar toward you,” says McCurry.
A tireless traveler, he has turned movement into a true philosophy of life: “Just traveling and learning about different cultures gives me joy and an inexhaustible charge.”
Produced by ARTIKA in collaboration with Orion57 and the City of Parma, the exhibition is a must-see for photography enthusiasts and anyone who wants to be moved by the authentic and profound gaze of one of the greatest contemporary photographers.
