Presented the eighth edition of Biennale Gherdëina: here is the theme of the major exhibition

The eighth edition of the Biennale Gherdëina, Val Gardena's international exhibition, has been presented in Rome: this year's theme is "Persones Persons," and the exhibition will be curated by Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos.

The eighth edition of the Biennale Gherdëina, the major contemporary art event that takes place every two years in the heart of the Dolomites, in Ortisei and the landscape of Val Gardena, from May 20 to September 25, 2022 (with opening days on May 20 and 21, 2022) was presented yesterday. The 2022 edition, entitled Persones Persons, is curated by Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos. Dedicated largely to the commissioning and exhibition of new artworks, Biennale Gherdëina presents a series of new installations, sculptures, sound pieces, performances, textile works and participatory experiences alongside existing and historical works, in dialogue with the unique landscape of Val Gardena and the Dolomites.

The artists selected for the eighth edition of the Biennale Gherdëina are: Etel Adnan, Chiara Camoni, Alex Cecchetti, Gabriele Chaile, Revital Cohen and Tuur van Balen, Jimmie Durham, Simone Fattal, Barbara Gamper, Kyriaki Goni, Judith Hopf, Ignota, Karrabing Film Collective, Britta Marakatt-Labba, Lina LapelytÄ?, Eduardo Navarro, Angelo Plessas, Elizabeth Povinelli, Tabita Rezaire, Sergio Rojas, Giles Round, Thaddäus Salcher, Martina Steckholzer, Hylozoic/Desires (Himali Singh Soin and David Soin Tappeser), Ana Vaz and Nuno da Luz, Bruno Walpoth.

“Persones Persons moves along two lines,” explain curators Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos. “The first considers the forms of personhood, legal and non-legal, of nature and landscape, asking how artistic expressions can contribute to the recognition of Earth rights and the reduction of barriers. The other deals with ancient and future memories of the paths of people, animals, plants and materials through systems of migration, seasonal displacement and transhumance in the region and its landscapes. To how they form and constitute each other in an ongoing process of influence and attunement.”

“We are really happy to present the full program of Biennale Gherdëina ∞ Persons,” says Doris Ghetta, Director of Biennale Gherdëina. “This edition looks at some of the most pressing issues of our time, bringing together some of the most interesting artists and artists on the contemporary scene. I look forward to seeing their work develop in our area in relation to the landscapes of Ladinia and to welcoming the public to Val Gardena in the Dolomites this spring and throughout the summer.”

For the opening of the eighth edition of the event on May 20 and 21, 2022, Biennale Gherdëina is organizing a full program of activities open to the public. On Friday, May 20, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Biennale Gherdëina will officially open its edition in the center of Ortisei with a welcome by the authorities, the Zënza Sëida APS Association and curators Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos. This will be followed by a walk among the artworks in the public space, at Sala Trenker and at Hotel Ladinia to then give way to Seed Offering, the talk by Sergio Rojas Chavez and the Bread Baking Ceremony by Gabriel Chaile organized in collaboration with Forno di Ivo De Pellegrin. A dinner in the square closes the evening. The day of Saturday, May 21, offers many possibilities: from 10 a.m. to 12 noon it is possible to visit the work SENTIERO by Alex Cecchetti in Santa Cristina while Seed Offering by Sergio Rojas Chavez remains on view in the center of Ortisei. From 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. is the opening at Vallunga in the Puez-Odle Nature Park with performances by Barbara Gamper and Hylozoic/Desires (Himali Singh Soin and David Soin Tappeser).
