Riflexion: in Mantua, two generations of photographers compare with the double solo exhibition of Heinz Lechner and Anna Di Prospero

Two photographers from two different generations, Heinz Lechner and Anna Di Prospero, are on display at the Ducal Palace in Mantua from May 26 to July 15, 2018.

The Palazzo Ducale in Mantua is hosting, from May 26 to July 15, 2018, the double solo exhibition Riflexione, featuring the works of the two photographers Heinz Lechner (Schwaz, Austria, 1954) and Anna Di Prospero (Rome, 1987) for a dense confrontation between two different generations, with two artists united by their interest in architecture understood as a living body, capable of reviving the conception of time and space of the era that generated it. Curated by Peter Assmann and Renata Casarin and organized in collaboration with Art Verona Level0, the exhibition presents 40 photographs (20 by Lechner and 20 by Di Prospero).

“Heinz Lechner,” the presentation reads, “sees reality through the magnifying glass provided by the camera lens and focuses or blurs environments, furniture elements, urban landscapes. The artist often uses mirrors - it is no coincidence that her works are set up in the Hall of Mirrors of the Ducal Palace -, or at any rate reflective surfaces, thanks to which she manages to bring into the frame elements of the everyday habitat, otherwise invisible, thus creating an effect of estrangement. For her part, Anna Di Prospero uses her own person to place herself in relation to contemporary architectural icons or becomes herself a measure of some of the iconic places of the Ducal Palace, as in the site-specific work presented here for the first time. The aptitude for ’reflexion’ is manifested in her works in that suspension and together expectation that create an aura of mystery and melancholy. His work has also focused on the theme of the affections, giving rise to a series of images that have themselves become icons of an intimate state that belongs to each person.”

Riflexion can be visited during the Ducal Palace’s opening hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. (closed Mondays). Free admission Tuesday through Saturday; Sundays and holidays are entered with the Ducal Palace Museum ticket. Info on the Ducal Palace website.
