Rome, at Palazzo Valentini the solo exhibition of Alessio Deli

Until April 3, Palazzo Valentini(Rome) is hosting the exhibition Korai. Incipit Memory, the solo exhibition of Alessio Deli, a sculptor born in 1981 in Marino and a graduate of theAcademy of Fine Arts in Carrara. The Korai are Alessio Deli’s latest sculptures, the result of two intense years of work by the artist, which are presented to the public for the first time in the exhibition at Palazzo Valentini.

The Korai, singular kore (κÏŒρη - girl, plur. κÏŒραι), are the female correspondent of kouroi, often depicted as young women who have just passed the stage of girlhood. The term kore came to be used following the discovery of numerous votive female statues on the Acropolis in Athens; they are standing female statues from the Archaic period depicted in the act of offering an offering, probably a pomegranate fruit, because of its meaning of abundance and prosperity. Deli appropriates this ancient and redeeming message to reinterpret it in his vision as a contemporary artist through signs, fractures, corrosions, oxidation and lacerations of a time flowing inexorably toward a distracted and wounded humanity.

The artist is known for his sculptures made by assembling and modeling recycled materials. His sculptural style has deep roots in the classical tradition. This relationship between contemporary and classical has been based over the years through the recovery of abandoned and recycled materials, while, in this latest artistic production, particularly in the making of Korai, the sculptor stages a recovery of memory and historical identities linked to the Italian plastic tradition.
