Roosters, hens, hoopoes and other animals by Toni Zuccheri at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum

The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum dedicates an exhibition to Toni Zuccheri: his unique pieces from the animal world are on display.

Of roosters and hens, hoopoes, owls and other animals. Toni Zuccheri at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, this is the title of the exhibition that the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum in Milan is dedicating to Toni Zuccheri (San Vito al Tagliamento, 1936 - 2008) from June 5 to October 13, 2019.

The large nucleus of unique works will deal with the animal theme, and through them visitors will be able to learn about a particular aspect of the Friulian artist’s production: nature was in fact a source of inspiration, and the exhibition curated by Rosa Chiesa and Sandro Pezzoli bears witness to this. In particular, Zuccheri preferred to depict birds, and thanks to the installation by Lissoni Associati, an official partner of the Museum, a fantastic aviary will be created.

In Zuccheri’s works, glass meets heterogeneous materials to give life to hoopoes, roosters, and ducks. Glass was a favorite material for the artist, but he was always experimenting with new techniques, also using different materials such as wood, dried leaves, stones, bronze, cobs, often salvaged media.

The artist created works inspired by the animal world in his early twenties, when he began collaborating with Venini thanks to his father Luigi, whom the famous furnace asked to design a bestiary; on this occasion, Toni enriched his training thanks to close contact with master glassblowers: the first piece for Venini was theUpupa that went into production in 1964, to whose bronze body are applied glass feathers.
In the same year Zuccheri participated for the first time in the Venice Biennale, exhibiting unique pieces, including the Rag Fish.

Throughout his existence, the artist was engaged in a close dialogue with nature, ranging from one-off pieces to series, from glass to metals, mixing noble and humble as well as salvaged materials with originality.

The exhibition is realized with the support of Regione Lombardia and Fondazione Cariplo and Lissoni Associati for the installation.
