Rovigo, at Palazzo Roncale the exhibition dedicated to Gian Antonio Cibotto. Sunday, April 12, a tribute to the writer

At Palazzo Roncale in Rovigo, the exhibition on Gian Antonio Cibotto 'The Taste of Storytelling' is on view until June 28, 2026. Among the initiatives, a tribute meeting to the writer, weaving readings and live music, is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, in the Tapestry Room of Palazzo Roncale.

An exhibition dedicated to Gian Antonio Cibotto (1925-2017) entitled Il gusto del racconto (The Taste of Storytelling) is underway at Palazzo Roncale, Rovigo, and can be visited until June 28, 2026. The exhibition is promoted by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo in collaboration with theAccademia dei Concordi and under the patronage of the Municipality of Rovigo. The exhibition project is curated by Francesco Jori based on an idea by Sergio Campagnolo.

As part of the calendar of initiatives related to the exhibition, Sunday, April 12, in the Sala Arazzi of Palazzo Roncale starting at 6 p.m. and free admission, there is a meeting entitled Le rondini sono tornate. Words and music loved by Toni. The event is sponsored by the Ca’ Cornera and Tres Bien associations and takes the form of a tribute to the writer, with a slant that interweaves readings and live music.

The event starts with an explicit reference to the writing of Cibotto himself, who in a note bitterly defined his own condition with the phrase “Anche le rondini no vol più tornare,” associated with the portrait of the weary Prince. The title chosen for the meeting reverses this suggestion, “Le rondini sono tornate,” with the intention of recalling the author’s connection with Polesine and the Po Delta, an area that constitutes a central component of his narrative imagination.

The proposal stems from the collaboration between the Ca’ Cornera association and the Tres Bien cultural association. The stated goal is to return an articulate representation of Gian Antonio Cibotto as a figure linked to the world of theater, as a critical observer, as a frequenter of cultural circles and as an interlocutor with artists and intellectuals. The initiative is also based on a direct memory of the organizers, who had personal relationships with the author from the late 1980s until his passing, through public meetings, book presentations and ongoing frequentations.

The construction of the event will include the reading of selected excerpts from Cibotto’s works, including Scano Boa, Il Principe Stanco, Cronache dell’alluvione, Razza de mona, Amen and Bassa Marea, which will be interspersed with personal recollections related to the author. The musical component is entrusted to the live performance of songs that Cibotto loved, including As time goes by by Herman Hupfeld and Les feuilles mortes, made famous by Yves Montand and also associated with Édith Piaf’s repertoire.

The Ca’ Cornera association, chaired by Gianpaolo Gasparetto, takes its name from a chapter in the volume I Veneti sono matti. The experience was born from an idea defined by the promoters themselves as a form of “positive madness”: the transformation of some rustic houses located along the Po of Venice, in the context of the floodplains of the Po Delta, into a cultural rest stop. The place is now used for exhibition activities, editorial presentations, and photography and painting workshops, with a setting that maintains a constant reference to the river landscape.

The Tres Bien cultural association was established in 2004 on the initiative of Annamaria Mariotti, Alessandra Lionello and Sandra Boscarato, starting from an experience gained within the Piccolo Teatro Città di Chioggia company. After a phase linked to the Goldonian repertoire, the group developed an autonomous line based on original texts or freely inspired by well-known works, often accompanied by live music. Over the years it has produced a dozen productions, aimed at different audiences and structured according to a theatrical narrative approach.
