From Nov. 8, 2019 to Feb. 9, 2020, the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan is hosting the exhibition The Terracotta Army and the First Emperor of China, which aims to offer visitors a long journey to ancient China 2,200 years ago. It is presented as the most comprehensive reproduction ever created on the TerracottaArmy, the Necropolis and the life of the First Emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi. In fact, the exhibition features more than 300 reproductions including statues, chariots, weapons, and objects discovered in the necropolis.

The pieces have been elaborated down to the minutest detail by Chinese craftsmen belonging to the region of the excavations and made with special attention to detail in order to maintain the same beauty and originality as the originals.

The statues, weapons, armor, war chariots, pottery, and objects reminiscent of daily life in ancient China featured in the exhibition were reproduced directly from the originals thanks to casts, now priceless, that could only be applied once. The sculptures were finished according to the ancient method, by Chinese artisans from the Xi’An region. The extraordinary character of these reproductions is due to the realism of the magnificent decorations and is enhanced by fascinating light and audiovisual suggestions.

In order to appreciate the works, large-scale video projections, audio guides and interactive zones have been arranged. And the exhibition aims to appeal to audiences of all ages. The exhibition spans 1,800 square meters traversing what was the history of the First Emperor, his army, military conquests, the creation and maintenance of the Empire, the extraordinary process of building the Terracotta Army, the Emperor’s tomb and archaeological excavations.

Part of the exhibit are 170 life-size soldiers as the impressive backdrop for a light and sound show that vividly and vibrantly presents an entire section of Trench No. 1. Equally engaging are identical replicas of bronze chariots discovered in one of the pits.

The exhibition will remain open until Feb. 9, 2020.
