Two mummies star in an exhibition in Rovigo: the Valsè Pantellini collection

From April 14 to July 1, 2018, Palazzo Roncale in Rovigo is showing to the public the live restoration of two mummies that arrived from Egypt: Meryt and Baby.

Until July 1, 2018, Palazzo Roncale in Rovigo presents to the public the best of about 500 artifacts from the Accademia dei Concordi’s Egyptian Collection.

The artifacts came from Egypt to Rovigo thanks to Giuseppe Valsè Pantellini, a Rodigian in exile due to his participation in the Polesine insurrectional uprisings in 1848 who took refuge in Egypt.

On display are the Mummies of Rovigo, Meryt and Baby, for which Cinzia Oliva is working on their restoration and scientific investigation: true protagonists of the exhibition. Visitors have the opportunity to witness the restoration of the two mummies.

Present are the famous wooden casket for ushabti in the form of a sarcophagus that belonged to Prince Iahmes Sapair, fragments of a large stele from the Ramesside age, votive bronzes of deities and numerous funerary statuettes.

Also: many amulets, a painted wooden sarcophagus mask, a wooden statue depicting Anubis in the form of a seated jackal, a polychrome wooden stele from the Ptolemaic period, a wooden statuette depicting Ptah-Soqar-Wsir, and a fragile cosmetic container in the shape of a woman.
