The City Museum was inaugurated in 2018, divided into two sections: the first aimed at documenting Livorno’s history between archaeology and the 20th century through civic collections; the second, set up in the deconsecrated church of the Luogo Pio is dedicated to contemporary art. With the exhibition Modigliani and the Montparnasse Adventure, since 2019 the city has allocated museum spaces for temporary exhibitions.

As stated in the notice of the assignment, the administration’s intention today is to redesign the City Museum so that it can dynamically change its layout, initiating a review of the visitor route and museum layout in order to actualize its functions in light of the desire to to strategically reposition the City Museum within the regional cultural scene, with the aim of enhancing and strengthening the museum’s identity and reaching a local and international target audience.

“The rearrangement of the spaces of the Bottini dell’Olio Cultural Complex and the collection are aimed, among other things, at creating a renewed cultural offer synergistic with the F.D. Labronica Library. Guerrazzi - whose current section is housed on the second floor of the Bottini dell’Olio Cultural Pole - and with other cultural institutions, both public and private, in the area, to the creation of new target visitors, to the loyalty of contexts and social categories of the local community, to the adoption of participatory cultural processes, to a new educational offer aimed at the schools involved not only through activities didactic, but also with initiatives of a creative and artistic nature, in the conviction that museums exercise an indispensable educational function in society, in which the younger generations represent the ”heirs“ of the historical, artistic, anthropological, political, cultural, material and immaterial heritage of the city,” the notice reads.

To apply, these requirements are necessary: (a) Master’s degree (DM 270/04) in History of Art (LM-89), Conservation of Architectural and Environmental Heritage (LM-10) and Archaeology (LM-2) or Master’s degree (DM 509/99) in History of Art (95/S), Conservation of Architectural and Environmental Heritage (10/S) and Archaeology (2/S) or equivalent/equivalent degree (Interministerial Decree July 9, 2009, published in the Official Gazette of Oct. 7, 2009 no. 233); b) Experience in the scientific direction of public or private cultural facilities, preferably of museum character and/or in the field of protection and enhancement of cultural heritage; c) Experience in fundraising and cultural marketing activities; d) Experience in the conception and implementation of communication projects; e) Ability to use technologies, particularly in the museum and cultural institutions field; f) Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
