On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., the Atrio degli Arcieri in the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua will host the presentation of a donation of thirteen paintings by Alessandro Dal Prato. The collection comes from the artist’s heirs, Anna Maria and Andrea Dal Prato, along with their niece Cristina. The collection of the state museum, which already houses a 1937 *Portrait of a Woman* attributed to the artist, is now enriched with works dating from 1926 to the 1980s. The collection highlights, above all, his work from the 1920s and 1940s, in which the structure of the form evokes Cézanne-esque references and a color palette reminiscent of Chiarismo.
Three selected paintings are on display in the Atrio degli Arcieri: *Portrait of the Mother* (1926), characterized by a Novecento-style composition; *Solferino* (1938), in which sculptural qualities and luminous clarity achieve a compositional balance; *Limoni* (1949), which draws on references to Cézanne and Matisse.
To mark the anniversary of the artist’s birth on June 27, 1909, Director Stefano L’Occaso presents an initiative linked to the future Museum of Modern Art , which is currently under construction. The event explores Alessandro Dal Prato’s role in artistic education, particularly through the founding of the Guidizzolo Art School in 1936. Giovanni Zangobbi discusses the artist’s studio work, the frescoes he created in the Mantua area, and his medal work. Claudia Dal Prato will present readings that highlight the artist’s humanistic and Catholic roots. Andrea Dal Prato and Renata Casarin will explain the reasons behind the donation and outline the painter’s artistic profile. The introduction will be presented by Stefano L’Occaso, Renata Casarin, and architect Eristeo Banali. The event is open to the public; entrance is via Piazza Lega Lombarda.
