Fifty-one works by Boldini from Ferrara museums go on a trip to Campobasso

With museums in Ferrara still closed for construction, Boldini's works continue to tour: now 51 works are going to Campobasso for an exhibition at the Fondazione Molise Cultura headquarters.

Fifty-one works by Giovanni Boldini, all owned by the City of Ferrara, are going away to Molise: in fact, in Campobasso, at the headquarters of the Fondazione Molise Cultura on Via Gorizia, from November 26, 2021 to April 18, 2022 an exhibition entirely dedicated to the Belle époque painter will be held, entitled Giovanni Boldini. The genius of the line, the magic of color. In short, with Ferrara’s Gallerie d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea still closed for restoration work, Boldini’s works do not stop turning: at the moment 17 works from Ferrara’s museums are in fact on loan to the exhibition at Palazzo Albergati in Bologna, before that his paintings had been in Barletta, and after the Molise exhibition another nucleus will reach Paris where another exhibition will be held, at the Petit Palais, from March 29 to July 24, 2022.

“It continues the fortune and fame of one of our great painters who has extraordinary appeal in the national and international public,” comments Councillor Marco Gulinelli, who just today in the council proposed the resolution for the loan of the works. On Oct. 29, Gulinelli attended the opening of the exhibition in Bologna’s Palazzo Albergati together with the president of the Ferrara Arte Foundation Vittorio Sgarbi. “Being there is important, the breath of Ferrara art, Boldini himself proves it, is international,” he said. Instead, Sgarbi had stressed, “No fashion can bend him, Boldini makes fashion. He consecrates beauty. He restores to his women an endless beauty. He is a totally free artist, who feels life and transmits it in painting.”

In Campobasso, 38 works and 13 objects that belonged to Boldini and a sculpture by Vincenzo Gemito, all owned by the Giovanni Boldini Museum in Ferrara, part of the Gallerie d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, will be offered to the public. The exhibition is curated, as part of the collaboration between the Municipality of Ferrara and the Molise Cultura Foundation, by the curator of the Galleries, Chiara Vorrasi. The works, the Municipality of Ferrara points out, are in good conservation condition, transportation and set-up will be carried out by the company Montenovi srl, which specializes in the field, under the supervision of officials from the Art Museums Service, and the administration has ensured that the Campobasso venue is in possession of all safety guarantees, as well as the insurance policy.
