A new space for exhibitions opens in Ivrea: it's Palazzo Giusiana, the former seat of the Tribunal

After a lengthy renovation, a new exhibition space for exhibitions opens in Ivrea on the occasion of Ivrea Italian Book Capital 2022: it is Palazzo Giusiana, the former seat of the Court.

A new space for exhibitions opens in Ivrea , on the occasion of Ivrea Italian Book Capital 2022: it is Palazzo Giusiana, at the center of a major urban regeneration and restitution to the community. The historic building, after having long been the seat of the Court, was decommissioned and left without a destination. After coming into the possession of the City of Ivrea, it is now being opened to citizens and visitors.

Inaugurating the new exhibition center are two exhibitions, Deus ex littera and Writers in Prose. The Deus ex littera exhibition, curated by Costanza Casali, explores the boundary between contemporary art and literature through the works of Massimo Giannoni and Paolo Amico, artists chosen for the peculiarity of their creations, which are closely related to the Ivrea Italian Book Capital 2022 project: Massimo Giannoni is known for his wonderful canvases dedicated to libraries and bookstores, while Paolo Amico stands out for creating works with a unique execution technique that consists of the use of ballpoint pen pens. Also on display are some works made with the Lettera22 typewriter and a portrait of Adriano Olivetti made with a new “stamp” technique, that is, with original stamps from the Olivetti Historical Archives.

Also Palazzo Giusiana is hosting the photographic exhibition Writers in Prose by Mauro Raffini, curated by Sandra Raffini, 47 shots of contemporary authors taken over the years and placed in the entrance hall dedicated to Ivrea Italian Book Capital 2022, a real access portal in which to deepen the knowledge of the Capital project and the path of the Manifesto for the Future of Books. Finally, some volumes from the Olivetti Library’s Fund A, donated to the City in 1973 and now on display nearly 50 years later, will be on display.

“I’m very proud that the city can return to use the halls of Palazzo Giusiana, which have been unused and closed for a long time,” says Culture Councillor Costanza Casali, “all the more so on this occasion, where, thanks to the Italian Book Capital, it has been possible to organize an exhibition featuring two great artists: Master Massimo Giannoni, an established painter of international renown, with his wonderful oil canvases, and the talented young Artist Paolo Amico, a birorealist who used the ballpoint pen, stamps and typewriter. The works on display, for the most part created especially for the exhibition, made it possible to highlight all the declinations of writing, from the pen to the brush and the stamp, up to, precisely, the Lettera 22 typewriter, an Olivettian symbol par excellence. The exhibition, which I personally curated, was specially designed by retracing the themes of the dossier that led us to win the title.”
