At MIC Faenza a new hall for the 21st century with international artists

The International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza is inaugurating a new permanent space dedicated to the 21st century, displaying works by artists awarded in the latest editions of the Faenza Prize and the Ministry of Culture's Contemporary Art Plan.

Starting June 20, the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza opens to the public a new permanent space entirely dedicated to the 21st century. Located in the rooms formerly occupied by the European Ceramics Room, the new room represents a further step by MIC in the reorganization and enhancement of its contemporary collections, in a path of renewal launched in 2023. The exhibition project was curated by Claudia Casali, director of MIC Faenza, with the layout designed by Oscar Dominguez. The intervention was made possible thanks to the contribution of the BCC Ravennate, Forlivese and Imolese, confirming the central role of synergies between museum institutions and territorial subjects in the enhancement of contemporary art.

The new exhibit brings together a selection of works by award-winning artists from the 58th edition of the Faenza Prize, a historic international biennial of ceramic art, and the winners of the various editions of the PAC - Plan for Contemporary Art of the Ministry of Culture. Artists featured in the new room include Nero, Wei Bao, Yves Malfiet, Sissi, Salvatore Arancio, Paivi Rintaniemi, Bertozzi&Casoni, and Kathy Ruttemberg. The works on display range from sculpture to installation and offer a diverse and layered look at contemporary research in ceramics.

“MIC Faenza connotes a heritage that is always being updated,” explains Claudia Casali, director of MIC Faenza. "The look at contemporaneity stemming from the editions of Premio Faenza, the longest-running and most active international biennial of art ceramics, is a strength of MIC Faenza. Like all Italian (and world) museums, the repositories are a place that holds most of the collections. With a view to evaluating and promoting its own heritage and, in this case, contemporary artists, a process of refurbishing the 20th and 21st century rooms has begun last September on the occasion of Argillà, with the setting up of the Contemporary Pills, continued in December with the Art Nouveau - Déco section and continued with small interventions on the post-World War II heritage."

With the opening of this room, MIC Faenza consolidates its role as a point of reference for the study and dissemination of art ceramics in all its historical and contemporary declinations. The introduction of a permanent section devoted exclusively to the 21st century represents an important piece in the museum’s strategy, which aims to strengthen the link between current artistic production and the long-standing ceramic tradition guarded by the museum.
