Gallerie d'Italia reopens its three venues to the public. Canova | Thorvaldsen exhibition extended.

The Gallerie d'Italia welcomes the public again at their three locations-Milan and Naples from June 2, Vicenza from May 28, 2020.

The Gallerie d’Italia in Milan, Naples and Vicenza are reopening to the public, with Intesa Sanpaolo announcing the reopening of the first two for June 2 and Vicenza for May 28, 2020.

At the Piazza Scala venue, visitors will be able to admire the exhibition Canova | Thorvaldsen. The Birth of Modern Sculpture, exceptionally extended until June 28, 2020. The successful exhibition was conceived and produced by Intesa Sanpaolo in collaboration with the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen, and curated by Fernando Mazzocca and Stefano Grandesso. For the first time in an exhibition, a comparison of the two great neoclassical artists has been made possible, thanks to loans from Italian and foreign museums and important private collections.
From June 30, the rooms housing the permanent collections Da Canova a Boccioni and Cantiere del 900 will also be open to visitors.

At the Gallerie d’Italia in Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano in Naples, Caravaggio’s The Martyrdom of St. Ursula, a masterpiece from Intesa Sanpaolo’s art collection, will be on view from June 2, and the exhibition David and Caravaggio. The Cruelty of Nature, the Fragrance of the Ideal, extended until June 28.

The reopening of the Gallerie d’Italia at Palazzo Leoni Montanari in Vicenza, on the other hand, is scheduled for May 28, proposing a rearrangement of the permanent collection: the main floor will be open to visitors, with thirty paintings from the eighteenth century Veneto and a nucleus of twenty vases selected from the more than five hundred that make up the collection of Attic and Magna Graecia ceramics, in dialogue with the mythological-themed decorations in the palace’s rooms.

To allow for a safe visit, the Gallerie d’Italia is planning some measures: online ticket purchase from the gallerieditalia.com website is recommended; entrances will be limited and staggered every fifteen minutes; and an inter-personal distance of at least one meter outside and two meters in the museum spaces must be respected. A thermoscanner will be provided inside, and gel dispensers with disinfectant solutions will be available in various museum spaces. The use of a face mask will be mandatory. Along the museum route, special signage will invite compliance, and staff will be available for any needs and directions.

New features will include free access to in-depth content by installing the MuseOn app on your smartphone, available on Google Play or App Store, logging on to museon.eu or by framing the QR Code found at the reception desk.

In this first period of resumption, the Galleries’ hours will be modified, with anextended opening from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last admission 6 p.m.), while the opening days will remain unchanged, i.e., Tuesday through Sunday with closing day on Monday.
